Throughout history, African Americans have consistently faced prejudice and discrimination. In an attempt to demean and devalue their existence, laws that institutionalized racism and segregated African Americans were put into place.

Above is an image of Martin Luther King Jr. in a jail cell from protesting.
Martin Luther King, a famous civil rights activist, wrote “Letter from Birmingham Jail” to address how he felt on this matter. From within a jail cell, King discusses passionately on the cause he was fighting for and why justice was important to him and all African Americans.
By analyzing his work, my essay addresses how I interpreted and felt about his letter. I explain key points mentioned by King such as peacefully protesting in Birmingham and just and unjust laws, as well as his writing techniques/figurative language.
